CHAI CHANG
releases his debut single
‘NEW REALITY’

Born and raised in Hong Kong, China, Chang releases his debut English single – NEW REALITY today. The track is an electropop and dance-pop song which aims at local as well as global audience. The lyrics describe what a social media savvy would do to attract mass attention and achieve his fame. He immerses himself in swiping his mobile phone and watches his life through the screen. The song opens as Chang sings the chorus with the line “so I’ll just swipe my life away”. The rap and dance break highlight how the savvy indulges in social media. The song ends with the line “welcome to the new reality”.

The single is now streaming across all digital platforms. Accompanying today’s release is a new music video which captures a mixture of wavy dance moves, scenery of Melbourne CBD as well as virtual production.

“It’s been my dream to release my own song and become a solo dance singer. I am always inspired by singers from C-Pop, K-Pop and English-speaking countries,” Chang said.

Chang was brought up in Hong Kong, China with Cantonese being his mother tongue. He admitted that releasing a song in English was a big challenge to him. “I started to prepare for this song in June 2022. As a beginner and independent singer, resources are really scarce but I am proud that this marks a new milestone in my life,” Chang said.

“Life is never a smooth journey for me,” Chang mentioned. “After graduating from my first university degree, I began my full-time career in the banking and later education fields. Due to my keen interest in the entertainment field, I took a break from full-time work to prepare myself towards progressing in this new direction by gaining hands- on experience through acting as a model and an extra. However, opportunities were really slim and I believed there was so much more I could do to contribute to this industry. As such, I have made up my mind to pursue my dream as a singer and reached out to all the relevant parties involved in this single. The process has been very tough with lots of challenges but is worth all the effort.”

Chang declared: “I am now in my early 30s. I believe it’s never too late to start something new. It’s my goal to integrate English and Chinese music, whether the audience are from the East or the West. This is why I included a rap part in Mandarin as a showcase of our Chinese music culture. With my passion and determination, I hope the audience will feel and share my sincerity. I will continue to exhibit my unique identity and demonstrate my artistic capabilities in future.”
